Fingers crossed for our client, Aion Bank, for its further development and expansion. It has been a pleasure to liaise with AION’s team and support AION in all legal aspects of several cross-border lending transactions over the last couple of months, and as a result hundreds of millions of PLN have been extended to the prestigious borrowers.
Aion Bank derives from Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena founded in 1472 in Italy. It began operating in Belgium in 1947 as a branch – also under the name Banca Monte Paschi Belgio. In October 2018, the Belgian subsidiary, Banca Monte Paschi Di Sienna, was sold to the American investment fund Warburg Pincus. In 2019, at an Extraordinary General Meeting, shareholders approved the name change to Aion. The bank established technological cooperation with Mastercard and became a certified member of the Mastercard Fintech Express program.
Special thanks to the whole team working on the transactions, Łucja Jankowska-Lech, Bartłomiej Grela, Adam Janczewski, Maja Batra, Kacper Szymczak and Kamil Osiński.
